The Mustangs Donor Club - Est. 1883

The Alumni Association awards $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors each year. Graduates, classes, families, businesses, and other organizations can sponsor full scholarships or contribute to the general scholarship fund. Contributions can also be made to our general fundraising program, which allows us to host the annual banquet and honor the 50-year class and graduating seniors.

Here are three ways to donate:

  1. Mail a check to the MHS Alumni Association, PO Box 230, Medway, MA 02053.

  2. Pay online via our Square sitehttps://mhsalumni.square.site/

  3. From your traditional IRA (for those age 70½ and older), consider making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). It may allow you to donate directly from your IRA without counting the amount as taxable income, and if applicable, may satisfy part of your Required Minimum Distribution. Note: a QCD must be sent directly from your IRA custodian to the MHS Alumni Association. Speak with your IRA custodian and/or your tax consultant to confirm the process.

Our nonprofit tax-exempt ID# is 35-2168358. Your donation may be tax-deductible. We recommend verifying with your tax return preparer.

Scholarship/General Donation FAQs

During the past, some individual alumni and classes have stepped forward to sponsor one of the $1000 Alumni Association scholarships. Also, many alumni have contributed other amounts to fund not only scholarships, but also other expenses like our annual banquet, Hall of Excellence, and mail/email communications.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions:

How does a MHS senior apply for one of the Alumni Association scholarships?

A senior completes a one-page application noting post-graduate plans, major, cost, and career plans. They are also urged to complete the MHS universal application and submit a one- or two-page essay explaining why they should be considered for one of the scholarships.

What criteria are used to select Alumni Association scholarship recipients?
To be eligible, candidates must be continuing their education or entering the armed forces and demonstrating hard work, school spirit, and compassion toward others. Academic achievement, extracurricular activities, civic duty/community service, and financial need are also considered.

Who chooses the recipients of the Alumni Association scholarships?
A subcommittee of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and/or the MHS Scholarship Committee selects the recipients.  The Alumni Association can also select a few and ask the school to select the rest based on Association guidelines.

Who is honored by scholarships that the Alumni Association gives out each year?

Each year, four of the Association scholarships are always named after MHS graduates for significant, unselfish service to the Alumni Association (Margaret Slavin Slatkavitz, Kathleen McGowan Choate, Victoria Lotfy Stilwell).  The other Alumni Association scholarships are typically just called “Alumni Scholarships.” However, in 2025, the Board of Directors agreed to use the names of our Fallen Heroes, our first MHS Hall of Excellence inductees.

Note: If you want to name the person(s) to be honored by a scholarship

that you sponsor, you should explore the possibility with

the MHS Scholarship Committee.

Can I donate less than $1000?

Yes. Any amount is helpful to support the Alumni Association scholarships and general fund.

Is the Alumni Association a nonprofit charity, making my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, the Association is a 501c-3 charity.  Our nonprofit tax-exempt ID# is 35-2168358. Your donation may be tax-deductible. We recommend verifying with your tax return preparer.

Can I make a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly to the MHS Alumni Association from my regular IRA?

Yes, you may be able to do so. Please ask your tax return preparer.

Can groups chip in to sponsor a full scholarship?

Yes, classes, families, businesses, and other groups can sponsor full scholarships or contribute to the general scholarship fund.  A class or group that collectively donates $1,000 to the scholarship fund will be recognized as the sponsor of a scholarship at the banquet and in the program.

Will the Alumni Association provide me with a receipt for my individual donation to be used for tax-deductible purposes?

Yes. As an individual donor or business will receive a letter of thanks from the Association.  If a class, family, or another group donates, the key contact of the group will receive a formal letter from the board listing everyone who donated, regardless of the amount. We ask that the group’s key contact send out a copy to all those contributors named in the letter.
